Accessing the PCJ Digital Library

Accessing the PCJ Digital Library

Library Overview

Students enrolled in courses offered by the Josephinum Diaconate Institute are provided access to the library’s digital resources. Students are entered in the library database and issued a barcode number. The barcode will verify your enrollment status and provide authenticated access to the library’s resources. Access is for the duration of the semester. Enrollment in subsequent courses is required for reactivation of your barcode to access library resources. The library’s license agreements with information vendors stipulate that remote access is limited to currently enrolled students and faculty.

The library webpage: http://libguides.pcj.edu/pcjlibrary is your gateway to library resources.  You can find the link to the library in Populi by clicking on the Home tab, and then clicking the Links tab (see below).

For your courses, you will find the ATLA Religion Database with ATLAS Serials most useful for locating articles in the areas of Theology and Scripture including those dealing with sacraments and canon law. The New Catholic Encyclopedia is also an excellent resource. The library recently subscribed to the Library of Catholic Thought that provides access to the Anchor Yale Bible Dictionary and the Anchor Yale Bible Commentaries, in addition to The Jerome Biblical Commentary for the Twenty-First Century. Additional E-books can be identified using the PCJ OPAL catalog or by searching individual packages directly.

The tabbed subject pages for Theology and Scripture are a great way to identify the key resources for these disciplines.

  2. Scripture Research Start Here page: https://libguides.pcj.edu/c.php?g=311501&p=2145859
Verification and authentication is required to access these resources. Clicking on the link to these products will prompt a login box to appear. Enter your last name and barcode (see below) to connect to the product.

Accessing Your Library Barcode Number

For those newly enrolling in the program, you will receive a separate e-mail with your barcode number.
New and existing students can find your library barcode number at any time in Populi by going to your My Profile page, and looking in the Other Info section (see example below).

Students that are continuing in the program will use the barcode previously provided.  If you are not sure of your barcode, please send an email to jdisupport@pcj.edu.
